I've seen a few things on the Suzuki Cara/ Autozam AZ-1 around here the past few days, and it seems to be pretty well loved. I'm afraid I know practically nothing about these cars, does someone want to drop some knowledge on me? They definitely look fun and quirky, but what else is there to know about them?

It's a mid engined, rear wheel drive car with gullwing doors that weighs 1600 pounds.
I want one so badly...

Made in 90's when Mazda went berserk, it's one of three trio of Japanese sportscar called the ABC (AZ-1, honda Beat, and suzuki Cappucino)
Mid-engine, RWD, powered by 660cc turbocharged inline-3 producing 63hp and weighs about 700kg.
The AZ-1 is the rarest Kei Sportscar out there, and really tiny.
And oh, the top speed is limited at 140km/h if i remember, and has almost no luggage space

It looks like a miniaturized RS200.

damn, it sounds really enjoyable. It's not the fastest car but I think driving it falls under the "slow car fast" principle...
How rare is it? Would it be impossible to get one into the states in a few years when they're eligible for import?
And I see your picture is one, do you own one?

Yeah, just like Fiesta EcoBoost.
Well, not really, but mazda only produce them for a year or two. What i heard is there's only 4,392 of AZ-1 out there, plus 531 Suzuki Cara.
No, i found this pic on google. But soon i'll own one.

Nice, I'll definitely be jealous when you do get one, haha.

Here's the official sales brochure if you're interested.
The Suzuki version is rarer than the Autozam and there were few special editions made including a Mazdaspeed version (which seems to be in that picture).

It's a small MR that makes an SW20 MR2 look like a freaking sumo wrestler.

and here's an example of why it'd be scary to drive on American roads.
